I reached the 900 follower mark early this morning, and for the most part I’m elated.
There is some trepidation I feel about this though, as some of the new followers are solicitor ships, promoters, or agencies; who’s primary intent is on making a profit, not the art. Some see profitability in my work, and would eventually wish to maximize their profits with some control over my artistic freedom. It happens, especially without art as the primary motive. Some just seek a cheap place to broker advertisements, for which they offer pay, but they also profit themselves. Again the art is not the primary concern. Agencies are the same, an agent wants to get a percentage, and they will eventually demand some control to maximize that. It’s as tough finding an agent, or agency that will respect artistic freedom, regardless of the bottom line, as it is to find an editor that won’t edit the life out of one’s writing. Critics come a dime a dozen, but agents, and editors of any value aren’t free, and good ones are scarce as hens teeth.
To my new followers, thanks for the support. If any are of these three categories, if you’re here for my art, welcome. If not, you can un-follow me for not availing myself of your ‘services’, or returning the follow, but I follow mostly other original artists like myself, or curatorships that respect the arts implicitly. Thanks, thanks, and thanks again!
